Public housing was established by the federal government under the U.S. Housing Act of 1937 to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Public Housing properties come in all sizes and types, from scattered single family houses to high-rise apartments for seniors.
The Clearwater Housing Authority’s (CHA) Public Housing Program provides federally subsidized rental properties. Residents pay only a portion of the rent based on income. Eligible residents are selected from a waiting list and must be income eligible.
